Texas man dies after falling from cliff at Dead Horse Point State Park

A Texas man died Sunday after falling from a cliff at Dead Horse Point State Park near Moab.

The man, 54-year-old Charles Campassi from Houston, was hiking with his family about noon about 100 yards off the West Rim Trail when he lost his footing and fell from the cliff.

Crews found Campassi’s body about 4 p.m., according to a news statement by park officials. They believe he fell about 200 feet.

“The Utah Division of Parks and Recreation extends our deepest condolences to Campassi’s friends and family,” the statement read. “We would like to remind visitors to always hike within their experience level, stick to established trails whenever possible, and to exercise caution when exploring areas near cliffsides and steep drops.”
