Two arrested after 18-year-old Utahn shot to death in his front yard

Police arrested two Friday people in connection with the slaying of a Utah teenager, who was shot Thursday night in front of his home and in front of family members during some kind of dispute involving drugs.

Layton City Police said they received a call from the 18-year-old victim’s mother at about 11:45 p.m. When officers arrived at a home near 700 N. Fairfield Road, they discovered the victim — later identified as Kannon Beesley — had been shot in the “upper torso.”

Beesley was taken to Davis Hospital, where he later died.

Police have since arrested a 29-year-old on suspicion of murder and aggravated robbery. A 19-year-old was also arrested after he allegedly “took substantial steps to mislead investigators," according to a news release.

Police said they are not releasing anymore information about the purported motive in shooting or details about the confrontation, but have said they believe the victim knew the shooter.

The Salt Lake Tribune generally doesn’t identify people accused of crimes who haven’t been charged.
