Two students at the Utah Military Academy in Riverdale have died of the flu.
In a statement released by the Weber-Morgan Health Department, an epidemiologist confirmed that it had “verified that each student tested positive for influenza,” though “they were not matching strains of the virus.”
Neither the school nor the health department identified the students, but a GoFundMe page for the family of UMA eighth grader Braxton Andersen Graham has been posted. According to the page, Graham came down with flu and pneumonia Jan. 17 and was “on the mend” by Thursday, only to be “rushed to the ER after having breathing difficulties” on Friday. He died later that day.
On Saturday, a GoFundMe page was posted for the family of Jaime Navarro, the second student who died. According to the page, 16-year-old Navarro “lost his brief, but valiant struggle against flu and serious infection” on Friday.
