What could be a soggy weekend began Friday night and Saturday morning with snow falling in northern Utah’s valleys.
The precipitation began Friday night in places such as the Weber State University football game against the University of Montana. Viewers on ESPN2 watched the Wildcats win 17-10 in a light powder.
Some Utahns woke Saturday morning to an inch or so of snow covering their sidewalks and driveways. The National Weather Service predicted more snow late Saturday morning, and more precipitation, including rain, fell in the afternoon as temperatures increased.
A 20% chance of snow is possible Sunday afternoon, too, according to the National Weather Service. Temperatures in northern Utah valleys will reach the upper 30s.
Monday is predicted to be partly sunny, with a high temperature of about 32 degrees.
In St. George, the National Weather Service is predicting a 50% chance of rain or snow in the morning, followed by sun. The high temperature is expected to reach about 47 degrees.
Snow is likely Sunday in southern Utah. The National Weather Service predicts “modest” accumulations in Utah’s southern mountains and the Grand Staircase-Escalante area, which it anticipates will get between 2 and 3 inches of snow.
The service warned that winter driving conditions will be present Sunday morning on State Route 12 and U.S. 89. Interstate 15 between Beaver and Cedar City may also be affected.
Monday in St. George is expected to be about 45 degrees, according to the National Weather Service, and dry and mostly sunny.
