South Salt Lake police have located a missing and endangered man who walked away from the Meadow Brook Rehabilitation Center on Thursday afternoon.

Johnie Ray Turner, 56, was considered endangered because of a speech disability, his “mental state” and the fact that he left the facility at 2700 S. 433 East without proper clothing for the cold, snowy weather — he was only wearing one shoe and was not wearing a coat.

According to police, Turner was found safe at 10:20 a.m. on Friday near 1400 South and 1100 West. “An alert citizen recognized him from the news” and contacted authorities, according to a news release. “He was cold, but otherwise OK” and has been “safely returned to Meadowbrook Rehabilitation.”
