Three arrested in shooting death of teenager in West Valley City

West Valley police have arrested three people in connection with the shooting death of a teenager at a July party.

Neko Jardine, 19, was shot in the neck, chest and torso at the party at 5625 West 4360 South, and died shortly thereafter. West Valley police had expressed frustration because, while they believed 15-20 people had witnessed the shooting, many of them fled the scene without talking to police and few came forward with any information.

A 17-year-old was also shot multiple time in the leg and an 18-year-old was cut during the fight at the house. Both were treated at a hospital and released.

According to WVCPD, the investigation determined that two guns were used in the shooting and they identified a red 2007 Toyota Camry SE that fled from the scene after the shooting.

The 18-year-old driver of that car was arrested on Wednesday, along with a 21-year-old man and a 19-year-old man. All three were booked into the Salt Lake County jail for investigation of charges that include homicide, attempted homicide and obstruction. According to a news release from WVCPD, investigators are still working to determine “the exact roles all suspects played in the murder.”

The Salt Lake Tribune generally does not name suspects until they have been charged with crimes.

According to the news release, “There are other potential suspects in this case. At this time, detectives are investigating two people who are already in custody on unrelated cases to determine whether they are connected to the Jardine homicide."
