Two men have been arrested in connection with two drive-by shootings that targeted the same Taylorsville house — first on Sunday, and again on Tuesday.
A 19-year-old and a 21-year-old were booked into the Salt Lake County jail for investigation of charges that include felony discharge of a firearm, and theft by receiving stolen property. The younger man also is being investigated for a charge of possession of a dangerous weapon by a restricted person, and a parole violation.
According to Unified Police, detectives found and pulled over a vehicle that reportedly was involved in the drive-by shootings. When they stopped the car, a stolen handgun was thrown from the vehicle; a second stolen handgun was later found inside the car, police said.
According to a probable cause statement, the 19-year-old told police, “Those guys in Taylorsville tried to kill me,” and went on to claim that the back end of his car was hit by bullets at an apartment complex at 4700 S. Redwood Road on Friday, Aug. 30.
The suspect also told police “he paid someone to shoot up the Taylorsville house on Tuesday”; said he was in the car when the house was shot at on both Sunday and Tuesday; and added that the 21-year-old “was the driver in both drive-bys.”
After obtaining a search warrant for a house in Sandy, police said they located more firearms, ammunition and drugs. “The calibers of the firearms found in the vehicle and at the residence were consistent with the weapons used" in the drive-by shooting on Tuesday, according to Detective Kevin Mallory, and two of the recovered handguns were reported stolen from a Sandy gun range on Wednesday.
The investigation is continuing, according to UPD.
