Shake Shack schedules first Utah opening in Sandy

The wait is almost over. Utah’s first Shake Shack is set to open in early August.

The New York-based burger-and-shake franchise will make its Utah debut at 11 a.m. on Aug. 3, following a VIP event the day before, according to a company news release. A ribbon cutting is slated for 10:45 a.m. on opening day.

The company announced its first Utah store in January, and according to Twitter, Utahns were pumped for the chance to have the chain’s foods a little closer to home than Phoenix or Las Vegas.

The restaurant will be located at 11020 S. State St., just off Interstate 15, in the old Valley High School building.

The store boasts a special selection of three frozen custard concretes in addition to their usual burgers, hot dogs, fries, sandwiches and desserts. Five percent of sales from the Pie Oh My special concrete custard — described as vanilla custard with pieces of seasonal pies — will be donated to the Humane Society of Utah, according to the news release.

The restaurant also will stock local beers from Roosters Brewing Co., Kitos Brewing and Shades of Pale Brewing Company, as well as a beer from Brooklyn Brewery and two types of wines.

The first hundred people in the store will win a Shake Shack Utah hat.
