Utah police were told a woman shot herself, but the boyfriend is suspected of murder

Police say a woman in Midvale died after being shot in the head, and her boyfriend has been booked into jail on suspicion of murder.

Shaina Bigby, 27, died Wednesday, less than a day after she was placed on life support.

Cameron Lundgren, 40, who is described in a Unified Police Department news release as Bigby’s boyfriend, has been arrested on suspicion of murder and felony discharge of a firearm.

Police have described an unusual homicide investigation. Officers responded near 200 W. 8600 South on a report of an attempted suicide. The news release said witness statements didn’t match the evidence at the scene.

A probable cause booking statement says the path of the bullet appears to have been “back to front and right to left.”

The violent crimes unit investigated. The news release states that detectives determined there had been a domestic dispute before Bigby was shot.

“It was learned from Cameron, and several witnesses,” the probable cause statement reads, “that Cameron and S.B. engaged in a physical altercation before the witnesses left the residence. During the interview, Cameron stated he and S.B. were the only two people in the home when the shooting occurred.”

Lundgren has not been formally charge. A state district court judge has ordered him held without bail.
