Two Kearns High football players who posted a video of someone setting an LGBTQ pride flag on fire have been indefinitely suspended from the team.
“We have one rule in our program, and that is not to embarrass yourself, your family or your team," Coach Matt Rickards told FOX 13. “That rule was broken. There’s got to be consequences for that.”
As the flag burns in the video, which was posted last week on Snapchat, someone can be heard laughing and another person can be heard saying, “All gays die.”
The coach said he is “more embarrassed and humiliated by this than I’ve ever been.”
A spokesman said the Granite School District is investigating the incident and will determine if there will be any further discipline.
“We take any comment, content or social media post that is intended to make any student feel unsafe, very seriously,” Granite communications director Ben Horsley wrote.
