A 4-month-old baby who suffered head injuries Thursday night died Friday morning, and the 16-year-old boy who was watching her is in custody, according to West Valley City police.
Officers responded to a report of child who was not breathing at the Shadowbrook Apartments at 3852 S. 1845 West about 8:30 p.m. on Tuesday. When they arrived, they performed CPR. The baby was first taken to Jordan Valley Medical Center, then flown by helicopter to Primary Children’s Hospital.
The infant was taken off life support on Friday morning, according to authorities.
Police provided few other details, but confirmed that the baby suffered head injuries and the teen baby sitter was booked into juvenile detention for investigation of child abuse.
Lt. Steve Burke with West Valley City Police said they received the call just before 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and their next steps will be guided by what happens with the injured 4-month-old girl.
“We wait to see what happens with the child,” Lt. Steve Burke of WVCPD told FOX 13 on Thursday. “If the child survives the injuries, then obviously we look at crimes that direction. If the child doesn’t [survive], then we look at homicide charges.”
A gofundme page has been set up to help the family.
