Salt Lake City Justice Court building ransacked, police say; ‘person of interest’ being sought

Salt Lake City Justice Court was ransacked over the weekend, and Salt Lake City Police are looking for a “person of interest” in the case.

Furniture and ceiling tiles were damaged on both floors of the building, at 333 S. 200 East, and vending machines were overturned, Det. Jess Perea of the Salt Lake City Police said Monday. Nothing was stolen, Perea said.

Police are not saying specifically when the vandalism occurred. Court employees discovered the damage when they came into work Monday morning.

Video surveillance showed one man was responsible for the damage, Perea said, and police are calling him a “person of interest.” Police have not yet released details about him.

Despite early reports that court would be cancelled for the day, Perea said proceedings are going on as scheduled Monday.
