A nanny cam caught a Utah woman kicking, hitting and shaking infant twins

A 20-year-old Utah nanny is facing felony child abuse charges after she was caught on camera kicking, hitting and shaking 5-month-old twins left in her care.

McKenna Newell of West Valley City turned herself in to police on Thursday morning and was booked into the Salt Lake County Jail.

According to court documents, the twins' father provided police with video footage from Jan. 5 that showed Newell kicking his daughters “several times” each. She’s also seen hitting one of the babies in the leg; shaking one of infants; “aggressively” shaking a rocker/bassinet with one baby in it; and sitting one on a couch “aggressively,” which “caused her head to bounce forward.”

Newell is also seen “covering their nose and mouth area with her hand.”

According to police, Newell admitted she is the person in the video. She said she was “frustrated and did not know what to do,” adding that “she did not remember doing the things in the video,” and “she felt bad and embarrassed.”

Newell was charged with two counts of child abuse, a second-degree felony, in 3rd District Court in West Jordan.
