Salt Lake City police have arrested a man after a teenager died from a stabbing early Monday morning.
Enrique Deloza, 28, was arrested Tuesday night, police say, on suspicion of killing 16-year-old Marcelino Johnson.
Two groups of people were involved in an argument that started near 1300 South and Main Street. The dispute ended with a physical fight on Kensington, where Johnson was stabbed in the torso. Police were called to the scene about 1:30 a.m., they say.
Johnson was taken to a local hospital, where he died.
In surveillance video filmed near the scene, Johnson and Deloza are seen walking with a third person, also male, said Sgt. Brandon Shearer. Johnson and Deloza continue walking outside the view of the camera, but the third male remains in the frame of the footage. Then Deloza reappears and he and the man leave together, Shearer said. Investigators believe Deloza stabbed Johnson while they were off-camera.
Police have spoken with other witnesses who were near the stabbing, Shearer said.
Shearer would not discuss the relationship between Deloza and Johnson or what they were arguing about.
Police were not releasing details about the third man, but anyone with any information on this case is asked to call SLCPD at 801-799-3000.
