Utah man accused of breaking a teenager’s elbow after the teen knocked his son down during a broom hockey game

A 37-year-old man was charged with child abuse on Tuesday after knocking a teenager down and breaking his elbow during a broom hockey game at a Woods Cross church building.

The 13-year-old told North Salt Lake police that he’d been playing broom hockey at the church on March 6 when he ran into another boy.

The second boy’s father lowered his shoulder and knocked the 13-year-old down, according to court documents.

“The boy disclosed that the defendant said something like, ‘You can dish it out, but you can’t take it,’ ” court papers state.

At the hospital, the 13-year-old was diagnosed with a concussion and a fractured elbow, which requires surgery, according to court papers.

The man has been charged with one count of third-degree felony child abuse in 2nd District Court.
