Three severely injured after elderly driver going the wrong way crashes head-on into another car on Legacy Parkway

A 91-year-old man driving the wrong way on Legacy Parkway crashed head-on into another car on Wednesday afternoon.

He and the passenger of the other car were taken to the hospital in very critical condition, with life-threatening injuries, according to Utah Highway Patrol Sgt. Todd Royce.

The driver of the other car has serious — possibly life-threatening — injuries, Royce said.

The crash happened in the northbound lanes near Glover Lane at 1:15 p.m. Traffic heading north on Legacy Parkway was completely closed for 2½ hours, Royce said. About 3:45 p.m., one lane was opened.

Investigators haven’t determined why the elderly driver was driving the wrong way.
