A teenager who was shot on Tuesday afternoon in South Salt Lake has died.
The 16-year-old boy was shot on the sidewalk after school near 3100 South and 300 East, about 4:05 p.m., said South Salt Lake police spokesman Gary Keller.
The boy had been expected to survive when he was taken to the hospital, Keller said, but he died just after midnight.
The teenager, who has not been named by police, had lived in South Salt Lake.
Ben Horsley, spokesman for the Granite School District, said the boy attends Granite School District’s sStep program, a nontraditional school near the shooting scene.
Horsley said the school serves students who are “not able to participate in traditional school programs due to safety or policy violations.”
Police officers were out all night investigating, Keller said, but don’t have any suspects.
South Salt Lake police have asked anyone who has information about the shooting to call dispatch at 801-840-4000.
