A Duchesne High School student was arrested and the school locked down Thursday after an active shooter situation was reported to police.
The high school, at 155 W. Main St. in Duchesne, was locked down until county deputies finished searching the campus at about 2:35 p.m., according sheriff’s office news release. The neighboring Duchesne Elementary School was also put on lockdown as a precaution.
Authorities found no firearms or explosives during their search.
The lockdown began soon after a group of students came to high school principal Stan Young to report the threat. Young described the students as “obviously stressed,” the release states.
Authorities haven’t elaborated on the threat against the school, but 911 dispatchers broadcast an “active shooter” situation to deputies about 1:40 p.m., after Young called police.
Deputies arrested the student, described only as male, at gunpoint in a classroom about 1:50 p.m. Two other male students were later detained for questioning.
Students were released from school on schedule.
Counselors will be available Friday for high school and elementary schools students, according to the release.
