Three inmates have been hospitalized and an investigation is under way after a fight broke out at a Utah state prison.

Utah Department of Corrections spokeswoman Maria Peterson says no employees were injured in the altercation that broke out Wednesday evening at the Uinta facility in Draper about 20 miles south of Salt Lake City.

One inmate was flown to the hospital by a helicopter and two others were transported by ambulance.

Peterson says the fight involved fewer than 10 inmates. She doesn’t know what sparked the scuffle or the condition of the three men who were hurt.

She says the prison was placed on temporary lockdown but no other details have been released.
