This summer, The Salt Lake Tribune is running a pilot for a new membership program.
Participants are selected at random from existing Tribune subscribers.
If you are a participant, you will have access to all reporting on sltrib.com for free. Your current subscription will become a donation at the same price that unlocks new membership benefits:

Quarterly discounts from local businesses
Discount in the Tribune store
An exclusive monthly behind-the-scenes dispatch from a Tribune reporter
A Tribune pin or sticker pack
$15/month

As a participant, you will be able to opt out of these benefits and end your financial support of The Tribune by clicking here. If you choose to do so, you will still have access to sltrib.com for free.
If you are a participant and previously chose to opt out but would like to renew to experience member benefits please email development@sltrib.com or click here.
This pilot program is an essential step in achieving our goal of bringing essential Tribune reporting to as many Utahns as possible. Not everyone who wants to access the news can afford to subscribe. In absence of factual information disinformation can rise. Ultimately we hope to make all reporting on sltrib.com free to anyone, ensuring all Utahns can access high quality news. We can only do this with community support.
Those who choose to continue as a member during this pilot will be helping strengthen news in Utah.
Frequently Asked Questions:
I was randomly selected as a participant. What happens now?
All participants automatically receive free access at the same account as their digital subscription.
If you choose to keep financially supporting The Tribune at the same level as your old subscription, you do not need to do anything except enjoy your new member benefits. A member of the development team will be in touch with how to receive each benefit.
If you wish to end your financial support, you may do so here. You will still receive free reporting but will not receive the additional member benefits.
What happens if I cancel my monthly donation/financial support?
You may cancel your recurring monthly donation at any time here. You will still receive free access to sltrib.com for three years, but will need to activate a new subscription. A member of our team will work with you through this process.
Why are you doing this?
Ultimately we want to be free. But, we currently rely on subscribers as an important revenue stream. Almost 20% of our revenue comes from digital subscriptions. So, in order to make sltrib.com free, we will need our wonderful community of subscribers to choose to support us as donors—even if they don’t have to pay to gain access to Tribune reporting anymore.
Why are you doing this for a small group first?
By creating a pilot program this summer we can get information from you, our readers, about the experience, the membership benefits, and more.
I have feedback on the benefits you’re offering.
Great! Please send them to development@sltrib.com
I want to help you make The Tribune free!
If you are interested in making a gift to The Tribune to support this effort, email Chief Development Office Ciel Hunter at chunter@sltrib.com .
How long will this pilot program last?
All participants in this pilot program will receive free access to sltrib.com for a three year period at minimum.
I was billed before I saw this and do not wish to receive the member benefits. Can I get a refund?
For the first 31 days of this pilot program you are eligible to be refunded if you choose not to receive the membership benefits. Please email development@sltrib.com to have your refund processed.
Thank you.
