What happened on ‘The Sixth’

On Monday, the U.S. Congress is scheduled to certify the Electoral College’s vote to choose the next president of the United States — a constitutionally mandated assignment that usually gets very little notice. The one time it wasn’t a routine task was in 2021, when armed people stormed the U.S. Capitol intent on stopping it. That day is captured in “The Sixth,” a documentary that will have a free screening Monday, 6:30 p.m., at the City Library auditorium, 210 E. 400 South, Salt Lake City. The group Indivisible is sponsoring the screening; tickets are free, and can be reserved online at gathr.com.

‘Gwyneth’ is back in Park City

Ski season in Park City means its time to revisit “Gwyneth Goes Skiing,” the campy British two-person play satirizing the 2023 court case that pitted a retired Utah optometrist against Hollywood star Gwyneth Paltrow over a skiing mishap. Co-writers Linus Karp and Joseph Martin are back to portray Paltrow and the doctor, Terry Sanderson. The play runs at the Egyptian Theatre, 328 Main St., Park City, starting Wednesday and running through Jan. 18. Shows are 8 p.m. each night (except Monday, Jan. 13), with Saturday matinees this week and next. Tickets are available at ParkCityShows.com.

Dialing ‘PTC’ for a mystery

Pioneer Theatre Company is in a mystery mood this month, launching its production of Frederick Knott’s stage play “Dial ‘M’ for Murder” on Friday, running through Jan. 25. The play — which was adapted by Alfred Hitchcock into a movie in 1954, starring Ray Milland and Grace Kelly — follows Tony Wendice as he hatches a plot to kill his unfaithful wife, Margot. Performances are Mondays-Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays at 7:30 p.m., and Saturdays at 2 and 7:30 p.m.; no performances Sundays. Tickets are available at PioneerTheatre.org.
