A new season for the Jazz

The preseason is over, and it’s time to see what the Utah Jazz will put on the floor. Utah’s NBA franchise will launch the 2024-25 season Wednesday night at Delta Center, 301 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. The Jazz will face the Memphis Grizzlies; tipoff is at 7 p.m. (It will be a busy week at Delta Center, with Utah Hockey Club playing the Ottawa Senators on Tuesday and the Colorado Avalanch on Thursday.) Go to deltacenter.com for ticket information.

Oct. 23-27

Jim Gaffigan, six times

It’s an indication of how popular comedian Jim Gaffigan is in Utah is that he was originally set to play one show at the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main, Salt Lake City. But as tickets sold rapidly, the venue added another show, then another. Now the comedian — now making waves playing Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz on “Saturday Night Live” — is scheduled to perform six shows over five nights, Wednesday through next Sunday, Oct. 27. (The Sunday show is the only one that isn’t almost entirely sold out.) Showtimes are 7 p.m. each night except Saturday, when he is set to start at 5 and 8 p.m. (with two shows on Saturday). Go to live-at-the-eccles.com for tickets.

Oct. 25-27

A film festival’s new identity

The name is new — the Utah Queer Film Festival — but it’s roots in the Beehive State are established. The event, put on by the Utah Film Center, was known since 2003 as the Damn These Heels! Queer Film Festival, and is the longest-running LGBTQ+ film festival in the Intermountain West. In addition to a new name, the event has a new programming director: Utah artist Cat Palmer. The festival runs Friday through next Sunday, Oct. 27, at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 W. 300 South, Salt Lake City.
