The room where it happens
For people who love of musicals, and people who want to learn American history to a beat, the national touring production of “Hamilton” is back at the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main, Salt Lake City, starting Wednesday and running through Sept. 1. The production will stage Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony- and Pulitzer-winning musical about Alexander Hamilton, the Revolutionary War hero and first Secretary of the Treasury, 40 times over five weeks. Olivia Rodrigo returns
Pop star Olivia Rodrigo has a Utah connection, having lived here when she was one of the stars of the meta-sitcom “High School Musical: The Musical: The Series” — and she has spoken often of writing her songs of heartbreak that comprised her first album, “Sour,” while in Utah. Rodrigo returns to Utah, on an arena tour to promote her sophomore album, “Guts,” Wednesday, starting at 7 p.m., at Delta Center, 301 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Ben Folds, on paper
The pop musician and composer Ben Folds is on tour, with a performance Wednesday, 8 p.m., at Kenley Amphitheater, 403 N. Wasatch Drive, Layton. It’s the “Paper Airplane Request” tour, in which Folds invites audience members to write song requests on paper, then fold the paper into an airplane and throw it to the stage. Opening the show is musician and actor Lindsey Kraft. The show is sold out; Folds will be back in Utah on Sept. 11 at the Noorda Center in Orem.
