Beethoven’s Seventh
For a work that’s 210 years old, Beethoven’s Symphony No. 7 in A major still gets a workout — it was used just a couple months ago in the miniseries “The Fall of the House of Usher” at the last gathering of the Usher family, before all the deaths started. The Utah Symphony is showcasing the Seventh in its first concerts of 2024, Thursday at the Noorda Center, 800 W. University Parkway, Orem, and Friday and Saturday at Abravanel Hall, 123 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. The program also includes Beethoven’s “Coriolan” Overture, Mozart’s Violin Concerto No. 3, and Carlos Simon’s “Fate Now Conquers” (which incorporates harmonies from the Seventh). Violinist Francesca Dego is guest soloist, and David Danzmayr is conducting. The show starts at 7:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday and 5:30 p.m. Saturday. Tickets are available at utahsymphony.org.

Sounds of the ‘70s
There’s a fan group for everybody — including lovers of the ‘70s soft-rock band Bread. Those fans will be at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 W. 300 South, on Saturday, to hear a tribute band that bills itself as “The Ultimate Bread Experience.” The name of the tribute band? Toast. (No, really.) There are two shows, at 3:30 and 7 p.m., with meet-and-greet sessions after each show. Tickets are available at arttix.org.
