Two Salt Lake City bars — including a closed establishment that Sugar House residents will remember — received liquor licenses Thursday, as well as seven restaurants.

Meanwhile, the state’s newest liquor store is set to open on Monday.

The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services’ (DABS) liquor commission awarded licenses to Settlers Lounge, inside Eight Settlers Distillery, at 7321 Canyon Centre Parkway in Cottonwood Heights, and to a new bar simply called Fiddler’s, which will be opening in the old Fiddler’s Elbow building at 1063 E. 2100 South in Sugar House under a new owner. Settlers Lounge is set to open at the beginning of May, and Fiddler’s is expected to open at the end of April.

Two makers of alcoholic beverages were given manufacturing licenses at Thursday’s meeting: Strap Tank Brewery in St. George, and Mountain Meadery in Grantsville.

Three businesses in The Gateway shopping center in downtown Salt Lake City all surrendered their liquor licenses, including Italian restaurant Lupessa, food hall Hallpass, and a bar called Neptune’s Palace. Apparently, all three names were listed and surrendered under the Hall Pass name.

When asked why the three establishments were surrendering their licenses, DABS spokesperson Michelle Schmitt said, “there were issues with their businesses and they decided not to pursue maintaining a liquor license.”

DABS Director Tiffany Clason announced that a new state liquor store, at 1615 S. Foothill Drive in Salt Lake City, is scheduled to open to the public on Monday.

This will be the reopening of the Foothill store, which has been operating out of a temporary location. The new two-story building will feature 23 doors of refrigeration, a Proudly Utah section and extended hours. The store will be open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m.

In a news release, Clason said the new store’s anticipated revenue in state fiscal year 2026 (which begins in July) is $7.3 million, of which nearly $3 million will go to state and local governments and fund services such as roads and transportation, public safety, education and health.

The new store will replace the existing Foothill store at 1414 Foothill Drive, which will close permanently Saturday at 7 p.m.
