Hello, Eaters! Once the sun starts to peek out, it will be time to start thinking about patios, and I have a great one for you Eaters.

Cozy Coffee Lounge, which opened in October 2023, has two locations: a sit-down coffee shop at 2580 S. Main St. in South Salt Lake, and a drive-thru spot called Cozy Coffee 2 Go at 435 S. 400 West, near Pioneer Park.

The South Salt Lake location has a spacious patio that connects two buildings, each with a lounge area inside. (You order in the north building.)

Owner Dzenef Beganovic was born in Berlin to Bosnian parents, and moved to Salt Lake City with his family when he was 3. He said he has dreamed of opening his own coffee shop since he was 12.

At Cozy Coffee, Beganovic said, “our main focus is to showcase a lot of diversity and different culture.”

That diversity can be seen on the drink menu, where traditional Turkish coffee brewed with Balkan beans on hot sand can be found alongside matcha and espresso.

You can also see it on the food menu, which features items you probably wouldn’t find anywhere else, like Euro cream toast, Balkan toast with beef prosciutto imported from Croatia, a beef-filled pastry called borek, shown below, and more. Cozy Coffee holds a lot of cultural events on its patio, ranging from belly dancer performances to yoga sessions. Since the fall, Cozy Coffee has been holding “coffee parties” every Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. that feature different artists and musical performances on the patio. Beganovic said everyone is welcome to “come and vibe, connect with people, and make friends.”

Live deliciously,

Kolbie

Treat of the Week

(Kolbie Peterson | The Salt Lake Tribune) A ruska capa pastry, pictured at Cozy Coffee Lounge on Wednesday, March 12, 2025.

This cute little pastry is something you would be hard-pressed to find on a typical cafe menu. It’s a ruska capa, which means “Russian hat” in Bosnian/Croatian. Inside, you’ll find two layers of hazelnut-flavored cake separated by a layer of coconut cream, and on the outside are two kinds of European chocolate with squiggles of white icing on top. The tall sides are coated with coconut flakes. The hazelnut flavor was really delicious, and the confection was chocolatey and moist but wasn’t too sweet.

(By the way, Beganovic told me that this individual cake would be considered four servings in Europe. Pastries are a lot bigger in America!)
