A nightlife hot spot in downtown Salt Lake City will be closing its doors this month — and new owners are expected to take over and introduce a new look and concept in its place.
Mike Askerlund is selling his bar Alibi at 369 S. Main St., he told The Salt Lake Tribune on Friday. Alibi’s last night open will be Saturday, March 22, he said.
Askerlund said he didn’t have any details he could share about the new bar, such as when the changeover is happening and what the new space will be like.

As for why Askerlund is selling Alibi, he said, “We’re at the point managing our other projects and other ventures at this point that we had a little too much on our plate.” Askerlund is also the owner of The Pearl, in the Central Ninth neighborhood; and The Green Room, just around the corner from Alibi on 400 South.
“There was another group that had approached us about buying [Alibi], and we entertained the offer,” he said.
Alibi, which opened in 2018, posted on Instagram on Thursday night that “we hope to see everyone in the coming days to say goodbye and get a few more of your favorite classic Alibi cocktails, and a couple more selfies in the bathroom (we’ll miss the wallpaper).”
