A new bar on Salt Lake City’s west side and a Black-owned brewery that’s moving to Salt Lake City both received liquor licenses Thursday, at the monthly meeting of the state’s liquor commission.
The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services’ commission awarded licenses to Paris Social Bar, at 910 W. 1000 North in Salt Lake City’s Rose Park neighborhood, and to Policy Kings Brewery, which is in the process of moving from Cedar City to a location in the Central Ninth neighborhood, at 79 W. 900 South.
Earlier this month, the Salt Lake City Council approved a $75,000 economic development loan to Policy Kings Brewery in order to relocate. It matched another $75,000 loan the council approved last August.
Paris Social Bar will replace the Centro Unico, an event space next door to Don Daniel’s Mexican Grill & Cantina and Panaderia Lizbeth in Rose Park. There are no bars within walking distance to Rose Park, and the nearest options require crossing an interstate.
The other businesses that received licenses on Thursday are:
• Laziz Kitchen in Salt Lake City.
• Ozora Izakaya Japanese Bar & Tapas, 1078 E. 2100 South, Salt Lake City.
• Kaze Sushi Bar & Grill, 65 E. 300 South, Salt Lake City.
• La Fountain Restaurant, 1501 N. Main St., Tooele (conditional).
• Smothered Burrito, 7211 Plaza Center Drive, suite 180, West Jordan (conditional).
• Los Molcajetes, 1111 N. 800 East, Logan (conditional).
• Ramblin Roads Restaurant, 206 S. West Temple and 169 S. Main St., Salt Lake City (conditional, both slated to open in about two weeks).
• Hell’s Backbone Grill, 20 UT-12, Boulder (conditional, projected opening March 17).
• Big Mango Bangkok Kitchen & Bar, 4182 W. 13400 South, suite 500, Riverton (conditional, projected opening July 1).
One producer of alcoholic products also received a license to sell its items to the public as a package agency: Shades Brewing, 154 W. Utopia Ave., Salt Lake City (also got a manufacturing license). The new Shades location is slated to open sometime in April.
After Thursday’s meeting, there are seven bar licenses and 50 full-service restaurant licenses available. A DABS spokesperson said one more of each type will be available in March, thanks to an increase in the state’s population.
