Two new restaurants open in the Post District — and two more are coming later this year

Dangerous Pretzel and Mensho Ramen are now open in the development at the edge of downtown Salt Lake City.

Two new restaurants are now open in a downtown Salt Lake City development, and two more will be opening in the coming months.

In the Post District — the mixed-use development at the western edge of downtown Salt Lake City — Dangerous Pretzel opened in January, and Mensho Ramen opened earlier this month, according to a news release.

Dangerous Pretzel is a European-style pretzel shop that specializes in hand-rolled pretzels with flavor infused into the dough, like the BBK (Brush Before Kissing) with Parmesan, garlic and herbs. Dangerous Pretzel’s menu also has pretzel bombs — billed as “a riskier version of pretzel bites” — and local beers on tap.

Mensho Ramen was founded in Japan in 2005 by ramen master Tomoharu Shono, according to the restaurant’s website. This new Post District location is one of the few U.S. restaurants Mensho Ramen has opened outside of California.

Diners at Mensho can expect ramen made with seasonal ingredients, in unique flavors like matcha and lamb tonkotsu.

The long-anticipated brunch restaurant Sunday’s Best is slated to open in the Post District in May, along with its speakeasy-style cocktail lounge, Sunday School, a representative of The McHenry Group said Thursday.

Opening in the Post District in late summer or early fall is La Casa del Tamal, a family-owned restaurant that opened in West Valley City in 2019, the release said. This Mexican spot serves authentic, homey food like tamales, birria tacos, menudo and more. La Casa del Tamal’s new location will feature a full bar as well as an on-site coffee bar, and will also be serving brunch, according to the release.

Already operating in the Post District is fine-dining restaurant Urban Hill, Level Crossing Brewing Company, Urban Sailor Coffee and Melancholy Wine & Cocktail Lounge.
