Davis County residents will soon have a new place to get fried chicken, when a Texas-based restaurant chain opens its first location in Utah.
Layne’s Chicken Fingers is opening a location in Clearfield at 846 W. 1700 South, on Saturday. Scott Davis, who owns the Clearfield restaurant, said Layne’s provides “outstanding food and great service, and a really fun and laid-back atmosphere.”
In 1994, Layne’s Chicken Fingers was “born and breaded” in College Station, Texas, where it developed “almost a cult following” among the students at Texas A&M University, Davis said.
Davis said he was introduced to the Layne’s brand through his wife and her family, who are graduates of Texas A&M. Davis and his family split their time between Utah and Texas, and he said it’s a tradition to eat at Layne’s every time they visit Texas and watch Aggie football games there.
The menu at Layne’s Chicken Fingers is a simple one, focused on, of course, chicken fingers. You can order chicken fingers as part of a five-finger, four-finger or three-finger meal that comes with crinkle fries, Texas toast, a 22-ounce drink and Layne’s secret sauce. There’s also the club sandwich and chicken sandwich, both made with chicken fingers, and a classic grilled-cheese sandwich. For a lighter option, a grilled-chicken wrap is also on the menu. All chicken fingers are available in original or spicy flavors.
Layne’s Chicken Fingers’ menu also features hand-spun milkshakes, in flavors including salted caramel, vanilla, chocolate, strawberry and Oreo. Menu items vary by location.
Davis said he plans to open 15 Layne’s restaurants in Utah over the next five years, with the next location likely to be built in Herriman.
The Clearfield restaurant will feature signage for Clearfield High School and Hill Air Force Base. “We want to have a community feel to it,” Davis said.
