After a year of serving Italian cuisine near Liberty Park, the popular restaurant Matteo is moving to downtown Salt Lake City, a news release said.
Now at 77 W. 200 South, Suite 100, across the street from the Capitol Theatre, Matteo is about twice the size as it was before, with three private dining spaces and large windows, the release said.
Matteo will be open daily starting Friday, from 4:30 to 9:30 p.m.
“We feel very fortunate that Matteo has been enthusiastically received by fellow Utahns, also becoming a must stop for out-of-state visitors,” owner and founder Matteo Sogne said in a statement. “We couldn’t pass up this opportunity for a more suitable space that will better meet our guests’ needs with a more comfortable dining experience and the same gracious hospitality and quality of cuisine our customers have come to appreciate.”
Among the changes diners may notice is a larger separation between tables, a bigger bar and complimentary valet parking.
“Ultimately, the characteristics of this new space will help us overcome the many challenges the former location posed while allowing us to continue our growth trajectory,” Sogne said.
Some of Matteo’s signature dishes — which feature pasta made in-house daily — include risotto modena, tagliatelle alla Bolognese, and focaccia made by Sogne’s mother.
Matteo is now accepting reservations at its new location, and reservations made before the relocation will be honored, the release said.
The space Matteo now occupies was formerly Hospitality Southern Kitchen & Bar, and an Olive Garden before that. For more information, visit MatteoSLC.com. To make a reservation, visit OpenTable.
