The Utah Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services also awarded licenses to 14 restaurants.

Three bars and 14 restaurants received liquor licenses Thursday, including a popular brewery in Salt Lake City’s Granary District.

Broadway St. in Tooele; Bout Time Pub & Grub, which will be opening in a couple of weeks in Draper at 1194 E. Draper Parkway; and Kiitos Brewing at 608 W. 700 South in Salt Lake City all received liquor licenses. Kiitos will be surrendering its tavern license now that it has a full liquor license. The Venus Club came up in September’s meeting, but the commission agreed to table any discussion about that business until Thursday’s meeting.

In Thursday’s meeting, the commission read aloud an anonymous email the agency had received about The Venus Club that requested the bar not receive a liquor license.

The email mentioned issues with trash, parking and people apparently drinking alcohol outside the premises of the bar.

During the meeting, applicant Jesse Lewis, who said he runs the day-to-day operations of The Venus Club, addressed those concerns. He said he hasn’t seen any consumption of alcohol outside the club, and that he is working with other local businesses to increase security in the area.

Kiitos has been busy building a second location in the Sugar House area, at 1533 S. 1100 East, Salt Lake City. Back in July, Kiitos business manager Jamie Kearns said they had tentative plans to open the new bar this fall. Now, she said that date has been pushed to the new year.

Currently, the under-construction second location is being foreclosed on, Kearns said. However, Kiitos has a new landlord ready to buy the building once the foreclosure is complete, she said, and construction will continue then.

After Thursday’s meeting, the DABS now has two bar licenses available and 40 restaurant licenses, said DABS spokesperson Michelle Schmitt. However, the agency plans to add at least 33 more restaurant licenses in November, because 33 restaurants didn’t renew their licenses for the year, Schmitt said.
