Ramen spot and Exchange Place bar in downtown SLC among businesses to get liquor licenses

Eight Settlers Lounge is a new bar from Eight Settlers Restaurant & Distillery in Cottonwood Heights.

A bar in downtown Salt Lake City’s growing Exchange Place nightspot received a liquor license from the state of Utah on Thursday — as did four restaurants.

The Department of Alcoholic Beverage Services’ (DABS) liquor commission held its monthly meeting Thursday, during which it awarded liquor licenses to the following businesses:

Eight Settlers Lounge, 44 Exchange Place, Salt Lake City, projected opening Dec. 1.

House of Corn Mexican Cuisine, 414 E. 200 South, Salt Lake City.

Aroma Fine Indian Cuisine, 715 E. 12300 South, Draper.

Ramen Ichizu, 915 S. Washington St. Suite No. 1A, Salt Lake City.

Matilda, 1600 Snow Creek Drive, Suite BCD, Park City, projected opening Dec. 17.

Eight Settlers Lounge is a new bar from Eight Settlers Restaurant & Distillery, in Cottonwood Heights. The distillery, founded by Katia and Radu Dugala, is known for such spirits as Ragtown American Whiskey and Devil’s Gate Bourbon.

The Venus Club in Tooele was also on the meeting’s agenda as a “ready to operate” applicant, but the commission agreed to table any discussion about that business until next month’s meeting on Oct. 31. This decision was made to “allow staff to conduct some further due diligence with regard to some matters that will be important to our determination,” said Tom Jacobson, the commission’s vice chair.

After Thursday’s meeting, the commission has four bar licenses and 51 restaurant liquor licenses available to award.
