Show your SLC library card for a discount at these restaurants and other businesses

All Salt Lake County residents are eligible to get a library card to The City Library for free.

For the rest of September, patrons of the Salt Lake City Public Library can get a discount at nearly 30 local businesses and attractions — including a dozen food and drink places — just by showing their library card.

In celebration of library card signup month, the Salt Lake City Public Library (SLCPL) wants all Salt Lake County residents to know that they are eligible to get a library card to The City Library for free, a news release states. And from now through Sept. 30, cardholders can support local businesses while having access to books, DVDs, graphic novels, databases, newspaper articles, audiobooks, digital magazines and more through the library.

Matcha Cafe Kyoto, at 2223 S. Highland Drive, suite E5, in Sugar House, is one of the participating establishments, about to celebrate its first year in business at the end of the month, said manager Reginald Bailey.

The cafe — which sources its matcha from Japan and serves matcha lattes in numerous flavors, plus ice cream and other sweets — is giving a 10% discount to library cardholders because “we’re a big community supporter,” Bailey said.

He said his kids love going to the library, and “we support libraries, we support reading.”

If you don’t have a library card yet, it’s easy to get one. Just visit any city library, bring a photo I.D. and proof of current address (within Salt Lake County), and sign up. To sign up online, visit slcpl.org/library-card. Once you have a library card, you can show your physical card, keychain, or digital card through the SLCPL app to receive a discount at any of the participating businesses in the list below, the release said.
