Utah bakery, known for owner’s ‘Cupcake Wars’ win, to close Salt Lake City location

The store in Foothill Village is shutting down, according to a sign on the door.

Gourmet bakeshop The Sweet Tooth Fairy is closing down its Salt Lake City location, according to a sign posted on the bakery’s front door.

“We’re very sad to share that we’ve made the difficult decision to close our Salt Lake City bakeshop,” read the sign, on the store at 1334 Foothill Drive, in Foothill Village.

The sign also said that times had been “tough” for the bakery, which opened on June 11, 2010. “We were trying hard to make things work and stay open here for another decade or more,” it said. “But sadly, it just isn’t to be.”

The note also thanked the store’s customers. “The relationships we’ve built with you through the years mean everything,” it said. “Thank you for including us in birthdays, weddings, date nights, and more.”

Limited pickup and delivery will be available at the Foothill Village store through July 31, the sign said, for pre-arranged, pre-paid orders at scheduled pickup times.

The sign also said that operations would be consolidated to The Sweet Tooth Fairy’s Layton location, at 2065 N. Harris Blvd. A second location of The Sweet Tooth Fairy can be found in Orem, at 1064 S. 750 East.

Sweet Tooth Fairy owner Megan Faulkner Brown opened the first location of her bakery in 2009, and went on to win “Cupcake Wars” on Food Network three years later. She and her lead baker at the time, Hilary Cavanaugh, won $10,000 after impressing the judges with a cranberry wine and brie cheesecake cupcake, The Salt Lake Tribune reported.

The Sweet Tooth Fairy’s menu focuses on cupcakes, cookies, candy and Brown’s famous Cakebites, which are made by blending together cake and frosting then dipping bite-size portions in chocolate.
