Another MomTok mom is calling it quits.
On Monday afternoon, Mikayla Matthews shared a post on Instagram that she has decided to leave the Hulu reality television series that thrust her into the spotlight.
“There’s no amount of money worth going against my morals or changing the stance I’ve had since I first saw and heard the things that made me feel this strongly,” Matthews wrote in the caption of her post.
On Tuesday, Matthews shared a post on her story clarifying why she decided to leave the show, stating “The ONLY reason I’m leaving is because I was told a certain person is coming back.”
This comes after an abridged fifth season of “The Secret Lives of Mormon Wives” released last week. A good portion of the season focuses on Matthews’ frustration with cast member Taylor Frankie Paul.
The two have been feuding online for months about their friendship or lack thereof, as well as Paul’s recent legal issues. The back-and-forth posts have picked up since the fifth season dropped.
Earlier in the year, production for the fifth season was paused due to Paul’s issues with her ex-partner, Dakota Mortensen.
“This shouldn’t be ‘relatable’ or entertainment in anyway,” Matthews wrote. “Supporting an ADULT doesn’t mean constantly making excuses for toxic behavior while giving unconditional sympathy and grace with zero accountability or change. I was in that enabling cycle for years, and I’m not going to be a part of that again!”
Matthews is the third original cast member — following Demi Engemann and Whitney Leavitt — to leave the show.
“For me personally, continuing to directly profit from this behavior feels wrong and unethical. It feels like a disservice to the children, everyone’s healing and the millions of people watching,” Matthews wrote in her Instagram caption.
During Matthews’ time on the show, she spoke about her childhood sexual abuse, intimacy issues with her husband and her chronic skin conditions.
“I’ve said from the beginning of this that I’m not comfortable being a part of something that continues to platform behavior I don’t agree especially given my own experience growing up in a home with multiple forms of abuse,” Matthews wrote.
She said she will “continue sharing my story, my health and advocating for myself and others.”
The show has been renewed for a sixth and seventh season.
