A voice from New York

Author and essayist Fran Lebowitz is one of the most authentically New York voices alive today, as well as a link to that city’s art scene from the days of Andy Warhol and Robert Mapplethorpe. Lebowitz now tours the country, dropping her social commentary on audiences in her talks. She’ll be speaking Tuesday, starting at 8 p.m., at the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main, Salt Lake City. Tickets are available at live-at-the-eccles.com.

‘Stomp’ at the Eccles

How does one explain “Stomp”? It’s a combination of dance, music and percussive noise, in which eight performers create rhythms with garbage can lids, brooms, Zippo lighters, hubcaps and other objects. It’s also been going for 30 years, which is a testament to its staying power. “Stomp” lands at the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main, Salt Lake City, for three performances: Friday at 8 p.m. and Saturday at 3 and 8 p.m. Tickets are available at live-at-the-eccles.com.
