Here’s where you can say goodbye to 2024 around Utah

New Year’s Eve festivities include champagne toasts, “Noon” Year’s Eve for children, and torchlight parades at ski resorts.

New Year’s Eve on a Tuesday night is not the best-timed holiday.

The week has barely started, and for many, the post-Christmas cleanup hasn’t really begun. And for those who party well to ring in the new year, there’s only Wednesday — New Year’s Day — to recover from the champagne hangover before going back to work Thursday.

But a Tuesday finale is what 2024 has given us, so make the best of it.

There are plenty of events happening on New Year’s Eve along the Wasatch Front. Some are strictly for the grown-ups, with champagne and other alcoholic beverages. Some are all ages, making the turning of the calendar into a family affair.

Here’s a roundup of the major events happening on New Year’s Eve 2024 along the Wasatch Front and elsewhere in Utah:

New Year’s Eve events

Last Hurrah 2024! • The Gateway, 50 S. Rio Grande St., Salt Lake City, atthegateway.com • Buskers, pop-up bars and live performances are included in what’s billed as “Utah’s largest countdown to the new year,” from 8 p.m. to midnight on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Headlining bands are Indigo Waves and Juniper Honey. Free to attend, though bring cash or a credit card for the drinks (draft beer, wine, hot cocktails and hot chocolate) available in the main plaza. Some Gateway merchants will be open late, too.

Ball Drop 2025 • 801 Convention Center, 1055 W. North Temple, Salt Lake City • This event (for anyone 18 and older) promises five DJs, a mechanical bull, giveaways and more. The event on Tuesday, Dec. 31, runs from 8:30 p.m. to 1 a.m., across the street from the Utah State Fairpark. Tickets are $20, or $50 for VIP tickets, at thepartytix.ticketsauce.com.

NYE 2024 Masquerade • Marriott City Creek, 75 S. West Temple, Salt Lake City • The 15th-annual event, Tuesday, Dec. 31, with dinner at 6 p.m. and a reception at 9 p.m., features live entertainment, dancing, giveaways, cash bars and $5 champagne glasses. (Must be 21 or older; attire is “after five, cocktail or formal.”) Tickets are $65 for the reception, or $155 for dinner and the reception ($130 per person for a table of 10), available at bigeasyentertainment.com.

Gold and Glitter New Year’s Gala • The Leonardo, 209 E. 500 South, Salt Lake City • The Leonardo is throwing its annual New Year’s Eve bash, Tuesday, Dec. 31, 9:30 p.m.-1 a.m. Appetizers, a live DJ and other festivities, door prizes, party favors, two floors of cash bars, and a complimentary champagne toast at midnight. Guests also get access to The Leo’s two current exhibits, “Spiraling Upward” and “Into the Mind of Artificial Intelligence.” (Must be 21 or older.) Tickets are $85 (10% discount for members of The Leonardo), at theleonardo.org.

New Year’s Eve Après Soiree • Sugar Space Arts Warehouse, 132 S. 800 West, Salt Lake City • A night of “dancin’ and groovin’,” Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 9 p.m. to 1:30 a.m. House DJs, a cash bar, a cornhole tournament and champagne toast. For 21 or older. Tickets are $20 in advance, at eventbrite.com; $30 at the door.

Early Eve and Out Late • Millcreek Common, 1354 E. Chambers Ave., Millcreek • Two events on Tuesday, Dec. 31: Early Eve runs from 6 p.m. to a “countdown” at 8 p.m., and includes live music, games, food trucks, an arcade and a dance party; and Out Late, 9 p.m. to 12:30 a.m., with live music, and fireworks at midnight. Tickets are $5 per person for Early Eve, and $25 for Out Late (available online at MillcreekCommon.org).

Countdown NYE • Provo Towne Centre, 1200 Towne Centre Blvd., Provo • This party, put on by The Tribe and Overtime, boasts live DJs, photo booths and more, on Tuesday, Dec. 31, starting at 9 p.m. Must be 18 or older to attend. Early-bird tickets are $19.50, at thetribeutah.ticketsauce.com.

Grand Summit New Year’s Eve • Canyons Village, Park City Mountain Resort, 4000 Canyons Resort Drive, Park City; ParkCityMountain.com • A family-friendly event on Tuesday, Dec. 31, 7:30 to 10:30 p.m., in the Kokopelli Grand Ballroom in the Grand Summit Hotel, with food stations, games, party favors and a DJ, ending with the live broadcast of the ball drop from Times Square (at 10 p.m. Mountain time). Tickets are $165 for adults, $80 for children; available via Tock.

Noon Year’s Eve • Loveland Living Planet Aquarium, 12033 Lone Peak Parkway, Draper • For kids who won’t stay awake until midnight, the aquarium offers two confetti countdowns in the lobby on Tuesday, Dec. 31. The event runs from noon to 3 p.m., and includes face painting. The event is included with general admission.

Luminaria on New Year’s Eve • Thanksgiving Point, 3003 N. Thanksgiving Way, Lehi • Thanksgiving Point’s Luminaria light show runs through Jan. 4 — but the event will be special on Tuesday, Dec. 31, with fireworks during the Fireworks & Ice shows at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m. Available times from 4 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. Tickets are $27 for adults, $20 for children (3 to 12), $22 for youth, and $24 for seniors; add $2 to make the tickets exchangeable for other times. New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade & Fireworks • Snowbird, 9385 Snowbird Center Drive, Snowbird (Little Cottonwood Canyon); snowbird.com • Parade and fireworks on the Plaza Deck at Snowbird, Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m., with hot chocolate around the fire pits. Free admission.

New Year’s Eve Torchlight Parade & Fireworks Show • Solitude Mountain Resort, 12000 Big Cottonwood Canyon, Solitude (Big Cottonwood Canyon); solitude.com • Parade and fireworks outside the Last Chance Lodge at Solitude, Tuesday, Dec. 31, from 6:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Free admission.

New Year’s Eve at Canyons Village • Canyons Village, Park City Mountain Resort, 4000 Canyons Resort Drive, Park City; ParkCityMountain.com • An afternoon event for all ages on Tuesday, Dec. 31. A DJ at Après at the Airstream plays from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.; Changing Lanes Experience performs from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on the Canyons Stage; and fireworks at 7:30 p.m. Free to attend.

Nightclubs and music venues

(Ever Upward Entertainment) Bluegrass band Pixie and the PartyGrass Boys are scheduled to perform a New Year's Eve show, Dec. 31, 2024, at The Commonwealth Room in South Salt Lake.

The Commonwealth Room • 195 W. Commonwealth Ave., South Salt Lake • Utah bluegrass band Pixie and the PartyGrass Boys will headline on Tuesday, Dec. 31. Opening act: The Pickpockets. Doors open at 7:30 p.m., music starts at 8:30 p.m. Tickets, from $30 and up, available at thestateroompresents.com.
