Daybreak to get new theater, arts center near Salt Lake Bees ballpark

The venue is expected to open in early 2028, blocks from the under-construction ballpark.

A new regional arts center is planned for South Jordan’s Daybreak area, blocks from the new Salt Lake Bees ballpark.

Currently in its design phase, the center will include an 800-seat proscenium theater meant to serve small and medium-sized performing arts organizations, Salt Lake County announced this week. It will also feature a visual arts gallery and classroom space.

The county on Tuesday announced a partnership with the Miller foundation to construct the arts venue, which will be called the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Arts Center. It’s being funded in part by a $25 million gift from the Larry H. & Gail Miller Family Foundation.

The center will sit at the corner of Grandville Avenue and Lake Avenue in Daybreak, a couple blocks southeast of the Salt Lake Bees’ baseball stadium that’s now under construction.

After a public comment period and formal approval from the county, the building’s groundbreaking — on a three-acre space donated by Larry H. Miller Real Estate — is expected in January 2026. The center should open in early 2028 and will be managed and operated by the county’s Arts & Culture division, a news release said.

In a statement, Gail Miller, the foundation’s chair and co-founder of the Larry H. Miller Company, called the $25 million gift “an investment in the future of our community, providing a space where creativity can thrive and where people of all backgrounds can experience the transformative power of the arts.”

Salt Lake County Mayor Jenny Wilson, in an accompanying statement, said the Miller foundation’s “unwavering commitment to the arts in our community is inspiring, and this new venue will be a vital cultural hub for the rapidly growing southwest valley.”
