‘The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City’ are back. Here’s your guide to season 5.

Who’s friendly? Who’s fighting? And who are the new cast members?

The question for “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” as season 5 begins this week is: How does the reality show top last season’s barn-burner of a finale?

Season 4 concluded with a four-episode trip to Bermuda. It ended with the women confronting new Housewife Monica Garcia, who admitted she was part of a group that maintained the social media accounts known as Reality Von Tease — which had been trolling the Housewives with gossip, rumors and accusations since 2021.

The moment of truth — when Heather Gay exposes Monica’s secret at last, dramatically yelling “Receipts! Proof! Timeline! Screenshots!” — made for what many fans consider to be the crowning moment of the “Real Housewives” universe.

The scene became an instant meme. Bravo, the network behind “Real Housewives,” sells t-shirts emblazoned with the words. The bass player for Vampire Weekend invited the Housewives to party with the band when it played Salt Lake City. Oscar winner Jennifer Lawrence declared, on the red carpet at the Golden Globes, that it was the “best reality TV finale, I think, ever,” and worthy of an Academy Award — and even offered hers.

What happens next? “How about drama on repeat, repeat, repeat?,” cast member Whitney Rose said at a viewing party Tuesday at Flanker Kitchen + Sporting Club in Salt Lake City, where more than 100 fans got a sneak peak at season 5′s first episode.

“We have new people entering the chat, which spices it up,” Whitney said. “We have things in season 5 that we’ve never seen before — like the husbands get involved.”

Castmate Mary Cosby, back to full-time status after a couple years off, told fans, “It’s a lot of drama, it’s a lot of people developing to show their true self. … We’re going to get a lot of realness.”

(Brett Colvin | Bravo) Whitney Rose, a cast member of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City," records her own entrance at a watch party at Flanker Kitchen + Sports Club in The Gateway in Salt Lake City on Sept. 10, 2024.

Cast member Angie Katsanevas, who joined the show in season 3, piggybacked off of Mary, saying the new season features “a lot of realness, real friendships, real drama — even for a reality show. You guys are going to feel the chemistry, the good and the bad. Everyone started to really bring out how they truly felt about each other.”

Fans will start to see that realness Wednesday night, when the first episode of season 5 premieres on Bravo at 9 p.m. Eastern time. (In Utah, the episode will run at 7 p.m. Mountain time on DirecTV and Dish Network, and 10 p.m. MT on Comcast. The show streams on Peacock a day after it airs on Bravo.)

Going into the new season, Bravo’s publicity department has dropped some hints about what’s up with our seven — yes, now seven — cast members. Here’s a thumbnail guide to who’s who, and where we’re likely to find them as the season starts.

(Koury Angelo | Bravo) Lisa Barlow returns for season 5 of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City." The season premiere is scheduled to air on Sept. 18, 2024, on Bravo.

Lisa Barlow

Where she is • The party organizer and tequila magnate is suffering a bit of empty-nest syndrome with her older son, Jack, in Bogota, Colombia, on his mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She is expected to lavish more attention on her younger son, Henry. (At the reunion that aired in January, Lisa said Jack was delayed getting to Colombia because of visa issues.)

Alliances • Her friendship with Meredith is looking solid again after bumps in season 3.

Adversaries • Disagreements with Whitney and Angie are apparently on the horizon.

(Koury Angelo | Bravo) Mary Cosby returns as a full-time cast member of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" for season 5. The season premiere is scheduled to air on Sept. 18, 2024, on Bravo.

Mary Cosby

Where she is • After Bravo fired Mary at the end of season 2 for skipping the reunion episodes, the fashion-loving preacher returned as a “friend” (supporting player) last season — though her appearances were most notable for the ways she avoided participating in group events, like on their trip to Palm Springs. Based on the trailer, Mary will spend some of this season the way she spent last season: concerned with the marital status of her son, Robert Jr.

Alliances • Trying to patch things up with Whitney and Heather, whom Mary has called many bad names in the past. She’s also making friends with Angie, who joined the show as a “friend” in season 3 and went full-time in season 4, in part to fill the void after Mary and Jen Shah left.

Adversaries • The trailer shows loud shouting matches between Mary and Meredith.

(Koury Angelo | Bravo) Heather Gay returns for season 5 of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City." The season premiere is scheduled to air on Sept. 18, 2024, on Bravo.

Heather Gay

Where she is • Triumphant after exposing Monica’s deception, and humble after finally coming clean about the cause of her black eye in season 3, Heather seems to be riding high. Her second book, “Good Time Girl” — a follow-up to her best-selling “Bad Mormon” — is scheduled to be released Dec. 3.

Alliances • Getting along with Lisa, and rebuilding her relationship with her cousin, Whitney.

Adversaries • Some harsh words with Mary about body positivity.

(Koury Angelo | Bravo) Angie Katsanevas returns for season 5 of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City." The season premiere is scheduled to air on Sept. 18, 2024, on Bravo.

Angie Katsanevas

Where she is • Angie and her husband, Shawn Trujillo — after a season marked by Monica-fueled rumors about his fidelity and her alleged ties to Utah’s Greek mafia — are getting set to celebrate their 25th anniversary.

Alliances • As Bravo puts it in their publicity material, “she and Mary are thick as thieves.”

Adversaries • Arguments with Lisa.

(Koury Angelo | Bravo) Meredith Marks returns for season 5 of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City." The season premiere is scheduled to air on Sept. 18, 2024, on Bravo.

Meredith Marks

Where she is • Embracing her Jewish faith, Meredith is getting set to have her bat mitzvah — which will help bring her closer to her husband, Seth. (Their podcast, “Hanging by a Thread,” which was featured during season 4, hasn’t posted a new episode since February, around the time season 5 started shooting.)

Alliances • Meredith’s friendship with Lisa endures.

Adversaries • A dust-up ensues between Meredith and Whitney when both women make plans to expand their fashion businesses to include bath products. (Yes, it’s another bathtub reference, because franchise creator Andy Cohen can’t resist beating a joke into the ground.)

(Koury Angelo | Bravo) Whitney Rose returns for season 5 of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City." The season premiere is scheduled to air on Sept. 18, 2024, on Bravo.

Whitney Rose

Where she is • Season 4 ended with signs of reconciliation between Whitney and Heather. Notably, when Heather was making her confession about her black eye during the reunion, Whitney switched places on the couches to give her cousin a big hug.

Alliances • Heather, of course.

Adversaries • The trailer shows an argument between Whitney and Lisa that gets so rough that it sucks in their husbands, Justin Rose and John Barlow.

(Koury Angelo | Bravo) Bronwyn Newport joins the cast of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" for season 5. The season premiere is scheduled to air on Sept. 18, 2024, on Bravo.

Bronwyn Newport

Where she is • New to the group this year, Bronwyn is a model, Instagram influencer, fashionista, supporter of nonprofits and a Broadway producer. (She and her husband, Todd Bradley, are among the backers of a musical autobiography of trans icon Alexandra Billings, according to Playbill.) According to her bio from Bravo, Bronwyn was raised in the Latter-day Saint faith, but was excommunicated (the church now uses the phrase “membership withdrawal”) because she got pregnant while attending Brigham Young University. To support herself and her daughter, Gwen, Bronwyn got a job in finance — which is where she met Todd, an executive 26 years older than her.

Alliances • Lisa introduces Bronwyn to the group. “Bronwyn is everything you could want in a friend,” Lisa says in the trailer. “She’s funny, she’s witty, she’s got the best wardrobe.”

Adversaries • In the trailer, Heather expresses apprehension about Bronwyn. “Bronwyn is not here to make friends. And I don’t trust her.” Considering the last person the Housewives allowed into the circle was Monica, trust will be hard to come by this season.

The new “friends”

Two new supporting players, aka “friends,” have been announced for this season:

(Koury Angelo | Bravo) Britani Bateman is joining the cast of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" as a "friend" in season 5. The season premiere is scheduled to air on Sept. 18, 2024, on Bravo.

Britani Bateman, a singer and actor who has performed in Broadway shows and had a starring role in “The R.M.” (part of the “Mormon Cinema” boomlet of the early aughts). She also works in real estate, and owns a company, Pure Productions. Britani is brought into the group by Heather and, according to Bravo, “repeatedly puts her foot in her mouth.”

(Koury Angelo | Bravo) Meili Workman joins the cast of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City" as a friend for season 5. The season premiere is scheduled to air on Sept. 18, 2024, on Bravo.

Meili Workman, a model and married mother of four, was raised a Latter-day Saint in California, but after moving to Utah, “ultimately decided that the faith was not for her,” according to her Bravo bio. Whitney introduces Meili to the group, but soon the newcomer is facing a rumor started by Lisa about her shopping habits, according to Bravo.

(Charles Sykes | Bravo) Monica Garcia — seen here on "Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen" in October 2023 — is not expected back for season 5 of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City."

Monica Garcia

After being banished in Bermuda at the end of season 4, all indications have been that Monica and her “Burn Book” (a “Mean Girls”-inspired prop she brought to the reunion) would not be returning for season 5. But in the spirit of “never say never,” the trailer suggests that it could happen, when we hear one of the Housewives yell, “never in a million years do I think that you would reach out to our sworn enemy.” Stay tuned.

(Bravo) Jen Shah, one of the original cast members of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City," has not appeared on the show since season 3 — when she was arrested on telemarketing fraud charges.

Jen Shah

OG Housewife Jen hasn’t been seen on “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City” since her arrest during season 3 on telemarketing fraud charges. (She’s serving a 6½-year term in a federal prison.) But her name was evoked frequently in season 4, usually by Monica, who worked for Jen before turning on her former boss by helping launch the Reality Von Tease accounts to call out Jen’s bad behavior. With Monica seemingly out of the picture, and with the last mystery — Jen’s involvement in giving Heather her black eye in season 3 — finally in the open, it’s possible that Jen’s imposing presence finally has dissipated. But if Andy Cohen has anything to say about it, Jen’s memory won’t be so easily brushed aside.
