‘Bridgerton’ author pays surprise visit to this Utah bookstore

Best-selling author Julia Quinn signed copies of her books at an indie bookstore in Salt Lake City.

Dearest gentle reader, it should be known that a New York Times bestselling author, whose historical romances have been adapted into a sensational Netflix series, visited a Utah independent bookstore Monday morning.

Julia Quinn, the author of the “Bridgerton” series and a member of the Romance Writers of America Hall of Fame, visited Utah’s only romance-specific genre bookstore, Lovebound Library.

In an Instagram post announcing Quinn’s visit, the bookstore called the the event a “random happenstance,” and said that Quinn was visiting Utah and decided to come in.

Quinn posted about her visit on her Instagram account. She referenced a post Lovebound Library made last week on the social media platform, sharing their green/pink branded merch alongside a special edition set of the “Bridgerton” series — which is also pink and green.

“Funny story. Last week I shared a post from Lovebound Library (seen here in last picture) because I thought it was cute and funny,” Quinn wrote in her caption. “I will confess I didn’t know anything about them except that they are a romance bookstore … and again, it was a fun post. I did not even know where they were located, but who cares? Romance bookstores must be protected at all costs and celebrated at all times.”

Quinn said the owner of Lovebound Library, Courtney Stookey, sent her a direct message and mentioned that the author should stop by if she was ever in town.

“To which I replied, “I’m actually going to Utah THIS WEEKEND.” (’Tis true. I have family there.),” Quinn wrote. She also called the store “terrific.”

Quinn signed copies of her books at the store, but copies are limited, according to Lovebound’s post. There are no holds or shipping available, and there is a limit of one per customer.

There are eight main books in the “Bridgerton” series, each set in the early 1800s and focusing on a different sibling in the Bridgerton family. There is also a separate epilogue collection. The TV series, produced by “Grey’s Anatomy” creator Shonda Rhimes’ company, debuted on Netflix on Christmas Day 2020, and became a sensation. The third season was released earlier this year.

Quinn is the latest best-selling author to visit a Utah bookstore. In May, former first lady Michelle Obama visited The King’s English Bookshop and signed copies of her latest book.
