Eccles Theater plans eight Christmas shows; tickets on sale this week

Utah musicians, including Kurt Bestor and Jenny Oaks Baker, dominate the lineup.

Utahns can start thinking about Christmas despite the summer heat, as tickets go on sale this week for the Eccles Theater’s holiday season shows.

The theater, at 131 S. Main in Salt Lake City, made its “Christmas in July” announcement Monday, rolling out a lineup of eight shows between Nov. 29 and Dec. 29.

Tickets for the Christmas shows go on sale Friday, starting at 10 a.m., at live-at-the-eccles.com.

The eight shows are:

Gentri, Nov. 29-30 • The pop trio will perform Christmas classics.

Jenny Oaks Baker, Dec. 2 • The Utah violinist will perform “an inspiring Christ-centered Christmas show” called “Joy to the World!” The program inclues Baker’s children, Alex Sharpe, Preston Yates, Jay Nygaard and Jason F. Wright, as well as the Unity Gospel Choir, Woods Cross High Concert Choir, Shelley School of Irish Dance and the BYU Theatre Ballet.

A Kurt Bestor Christmas, Dec. 5-7 • Bestor, the Utah composer and musician, has been performing all over the western United States for 36 years. He is expected to announce his guest musician at a later date.

”God is A Scottish Drag Queen,” Dec. 13 • Comedian Mike Delamont brings a Christmas twist to his one-person comedy show.

Mannheim Steamroller Christmas, Dec. 16-17 • Chip Davis’ new age musical group is celebrating 50 years since its founding in 1974.

Mat & Savanna Shaw, Dec. 20 • The Utah father-daughter duo take the stage.

”A Magical Cirque Christmas,” Dec. 26 • A variety show featuring jugglers, acrobats and more, for “awe-inspiring performances for all ages.”

”Shrek: The Musical,” Dec. 27-29 • Everyone’s beloved ogre comes to the stage in this touring production.
