Broadway at The Eccles is unveiling what it’s calling its “biggest season” yet — with seven productions, including the fan favorite “Wicked.”
The 2024-2025 season, announced Wednesday, will feature seven productions — six musicals and one stage play — between September 2024 and July 2025 at the Eccles Theater in downtown Salt Lake City. There also will be two much-loved musicals as add-ons to the season subscription: “The Book of Mormon” and “Les Misérables.”
Here are the shows:
“Mrs. Doubtfire” (Sept. 10-15) • This musical is based on the 1993 movie, about a divorced dad who disguises himself as an elderly woman to get a job as his kids’ nanny.
“Funny Girl” (Oct. 8-14) • Fanny Brice needs no introduction, neither does the soundtrack of this musical, with such songs as “People” and “Don’t Rain on My Parade.”
“Peter Pan” (Nov. 5-10) • This musical based on J.M. Barrie’s classic play — with such songs as “I Won’t Grow Up” and “I Gotta Crow” — has been around for nearly 70 years. Not to be confused with the 1953 Disney version.
“Kimberly Akimbo” (Dec. 10-15) • A winner of five Tony Awards, this musical — with music by composer Jeanine Tesori (”Fun Home,” “Shrek the Musical”) — follows the coming of age of a New Jersey teenager.
“The Book of Mormon” (Jan. 21-26, 2025) • The Tony-winning musical, about Latter-day Saint missionaries getting in over their head in Uganda, is being presented as an add-on to the season subscription.
“Les Misérables” (Feb. 26-March 9, 2025) • The acclaimed musical based on Victor Hugo’s novel, an epic of rebels and thieves in 19th century France, will be marking its 45th anniversary in 2025. Presented as an add-on to the season subscription.
“Life of Pi” (April 1-6, 2025) • Lolita Chakrabarti’s play is based on Yann Martel’s novel, about a young man marooned on a lifeboat with a tiger (which is brought to life by a team of puppeteers).
“Wicked” (April 16-May 25, 2025) • Broadway at the Eccles dubs this show — a prequel to “The Wizard of Oz,” centering on the tense relationship between the witches Glinda and Elphaba — as the most “popular” in Salt Lake City.
“& Juliet” (June 17-22, 2025) • From the creator of the comedy “Schitt’s Creek,” this production ponders what would’ve happened to Shakespeare’s Juliet if she had lived. This jukebox musical features songs co-written by Max Martin, including hits originally recorded by Backstreet Boys, Britney Spears, Pink, Kelly Clarkson and Katy Perry, among others.
There is a waitlist for those wishing to become a season ticket holder, which will go on sale in the spring. Single show tickets will go on sale at a later date.
