‘Real Housewives of SLC’: Lisa says she might go to the temple; Heather really resents the LDS Church

Turns out Meredith’s son really is gay, and Mary’s reign of rudeness continues.

The subject of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints comes up even more than usual in the Oct. 10 episode of “The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City,” and there’s some questionable information along with a good bit of bitterness.

• Lisa Barlow’s 18-year-old son, Jack, is planning to go on a Latter-day Saint mission. “A lot of people here pay their kids to go on a mission. Or blackmail them,” she says. “Or say, like, ‘Go or you’re going to embarrass the family.’ Like, there’re social pressures in Utah. But Jack has been raised non-orthodox.”

• Jack thinks the Book of Mormon is “very action-packed. … They could turn it into a movie and it’d, like, do good.”

• Lisa, who’s been a member for more than 20 years, has not read the Book of Mormon. “But based on the things I’m hearing about this book, I kind of want to read it.”

(Bravo) Jack Barlow on "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City."

• Lisa is thinking about going to the temple when Jack goes for the first time, although she does not have a temple recommend and has no intention of wearing temple garments. “I respect the garments [but], I don’t do that.”

• In a confessional, Lisa says, “you have to be worthy” to go to the temple, and says members might not feel worthy because they “drink too much Diet Coke” or “too much alcohol,” or “because they’re hitting it with their neighbor.” (Diet Coke won’t keep you out. Alcohol and adultery will. Lisa never mentions that she must have interviews with her bishop and stake president to get a temple recommend. Or, possibly, that was edited out.)

• Heather Gay says she doesn’t think they should “be acting all supportive and excited about a guy [Jack] that’s going to go out there and sell a church that we know can be very destructive.” She served a mission to southern France, and she remains “conflicted” about it because she “ruined a lot of people’s lives” by converting them.

• Heather says the LDS Church is homophobic and simply ignores transgender people, and it remains “misogynistic, bigoted, and it has a horrible, problematic racist history.”

• Monica Garcia and her mother, Linda, are no longer members, but Linda wants Monica to raise her four daughters in the LDS church “because I believe wholeheartedly that those girls need Jesus … scriptures [and] prayer.” Monica cuts her off “because when you left the church, you came to me and you apologized for raising me in the church.” Linda denies that happened, and Monica insists it did.

(Bravo) Brooks Marks and his mother, Meredith, in an episode of "The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City."

Yes, he’s gay

Remember in Season 2 when Meredith came unglued when Jen Shah suggested that her son, Brooks, is gay? Well, he is. Meredith confirms it when she referred to Brooks “first relationship” being with a male. And Brooks talks about what he wants and doesn’t want in a “boyfriend.”

Mary remains awful

Among her multiple rude behaviors, Mary Cosby calls a member of the catering staff “lazy” to his face.
