Independence Day

Tuesday is the Fourth of July, the 247th birthday of the United States of America, and towns and cities across Utah will be celebrating. We’ve got a full list of those events in this weekend’s Mix section, or look on sltrib.com.

Nickelback is back

After celebrating the United States’ birthday, of course you’ll want to spend an evening with Canada’s pride, the arena-rock band Nickelback. Still best known for their 2001 hit “How You Remind Me,” the band has had decades of commercial success and equal amounts of critical negativity — which the band and its fans have brushed off over the years. Thursday’s mostly sold-out show at Usana Amphitheatre, with opening acts Brantley Gilbert and Josh Ross, starts at 6:30 p.m. Resale tickets are available via LiveNation.com.

Fall Out Boy rocks

Another rock show at Usana Amphitheatre happens Friday, with Fall Out Boy taking the stage. The band is known for such hits as “This Ain’t a Scene, It’s an Arms Race,” “My Songs Know What You Did in the Dark (Light ‘Em Up),” “Centuries” and “Uma Thurman.” This week, the band released a new single, a cover of Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire,” but with new lyrics name-dropping historical and cultural icons from 1989 to now. Opening acts are Bring Me the Horizon and Daisy Grenade. The show starts at 6:30 p.m.; tickets are available at LiveNation.com.
