Salt Lake City’s Eccles Theater will again be the room where it happens — when the acclaimed Broadway musical “Hamilton” returns in the summer of 2024.
Broadway Across America announced Monday that Lin-Manuel Miranda’s Tony- and Pulitzer Prize-winning musical will be part of its 2023-24 season. “Hamilton” will run for five weeks, from July 31 to Sept. 1, 2024. The rest of the season will be announced on March 15, and will include several premiere shows, according to a news release from BAA.
Current subscribers soon will be asked to re-up for the new season. New subscriptions for the 2023-24 season will go on sale in June. Those interested in signing up for a new subscription can fill out an online form to join the waiting list, at BroadwayAcrossAmerica.com.
Individual tickets for “Hamilton” will go on sale at a date to be announced.
“Hamilton” uses hip-hop, jazz, R&B and other genres to tell the story of Alexander Hamilton, the Caribbean-born immigrant who became personal secretary to Gen. George Washington during the Revolutionary War. When Washington became president, Hamilton became Secretary of the Treasury, pushing through financial systems still in place today, even after his career tumbled because of scandal and hubris.
The play also details Hamilton’s love for his wife, Eliza, and his attraction to his sister-in-law, Angelica. And it follows his friendship and rivalry with another soldier-turned-politician, Aaron Burr — a connection that ends on a dueling ground in Weehauken, New Jersey.
The Eccles Theater is located at 131 S. Main St., in downtown Salt Lake City.
