‘Silent Night’ at Hogle Zoo

Utah’s Hogle Zoo, with help from the Utah Parent Center, is offering its first Neurodiversity Celebration Day on Tuesday — accommodating people who are sensitive to high noise levels, visuals and smells with special educational activities and experiences. Events run from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. The zoo is also presenting, from 5:30 to 9 p.m. a “Silent Night” version of its ZooLights program, with reduced or stopped strobing, flashing and blinking light effects and lowered music volumes. For more information about the events, go to HogleZoo.org.

December 29-30

Mannheim Steamroller at the Eccles

The music experience known as Mannheim Steamroller — a little bit classical, a little bit New Age, a little bit rock ‘n’ roll and a whole lot of Christmas — returns to Utah, for some post-Christmas celebrating, Thursday and Friday at the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main St., Salt Lake City. The brainchild of music producer Chip Davis, Mannheim Steamroller recorded its first Christmas album in 1984, and has been performing its brand of holiday music ever since. Shows start at 7:30 p.m. both nights, with a 3 p.m. matinee on Friday. Tickets available at arttix.org.

December 31

‘Last Hurrah’ at The Gateway

Time to ring out 2022, and many bars and restaurants in Utah are taking reservations for their New Year’s Eve festivities. The biggest party on Saturday night is a free one: “Last Hurrah” at The Gateway, 50 S. Rio Grande St., Salt Lake City. Presented with the Downtown Alliance and The Blocks, the event will include live music on an outdoor stage, buskers, pop-up bars, and fireworks at midnight. Events start at 8 p.m.
