Singing carols in The Viv

Another Utah holiday tradition, the Christmas Carol Sing-Along, is happening Monday, 7 p.m., at Vivint Arena, 301 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. The 28th annual event is presented by the Larry H. Miller Family, as a free opportunity to hear and sing with the West Valley Symphony through a selection of holiday songs. Special guests this year are the father-daughter duo Mat & Savanna Shaw. Composer Kurt Bestor is the guest emcee. Santa Claus and Jazz Bear also will be in attendance. Doors open at 6 p.m.

‘Mormon Boy’ times three

Actor-playwright Steven Fales will perform the three parts of his “Mormon Boy Trilogy,” starting on Tuesday, at the Rose Wagner Performing Arts Center, 138 W. 300 South, Salt Lake City. Fales, a sixth-generation member of the Latter-day Saint faith who said he was excommunicated for being gay, based the plays on his own life. The first play, “Confessions of a Mormon Boy,” will take place on Tuesday and Dec. 27; part two, “Missionary Position,” on Wednesday and Dec. 28; and the finale, “Prodigal Dad,” on Thursday and Dec. 29. Fales will perform all three on Friday, and again on Dec. 29, in a “Morm-a-thon” that starts at 1 p.m. All evening shows start at 7:30 p.m. Tickets available at https://www.saltlakecountyarts.org/events.

‘Christmas Together’ concerts

It’s a busy week for Mat & Savanna Shaw. The Utah-based duo — after performing at Monday’s Christmas Carol Sing-Along at The Viv — is scheduled to headline a pair of holiday concerts, Thursday and Friday, at 7:30 p.m. each night, at the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main, Salt Lake City. The Shaws released a Christmas album, “Christmas Together,” earlier this year, and the set list will undoubtedly feature those tracks. Another father-daughter musical duo, 9-year-old Claire Crosby and her dad, Dave, will open the show. Tickets are at live-at-the-eccles.com.
