Bestor’s back for Christmas

Utah composer and musician Kurt Bestor is back with his 35th annual holiday concert series, “A Kurt Bestor Christmas,” Thursday through Saturday at the Eccles Theater, 131 S. Main, Salt Lake City. This year’s featured guest artist is Tony-winning singer Lisa Hopkins Seegmiller. Bestor also will perform a duet with pianist Josh Wright, and soloists from the One Voice Children’s Choir will sing Bestor’s iconic “Prayer for the Children.” The concerts start at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday, 8 p.m. on Friday, and at 2 and 8 p.m. on Saturday. Tickets are available at saltlakecountyarts.org/events.

December 16 and 17

Two arena-sized Christmas shows

Christmas concerts by Lindsey Stirling and The Piano Guys are not quite annual occurrences in Utah, but they’re getting close. Stirling, the pop-star violinist, will bring her “Snow Waltz” tour to the Maverik Center, 3200 S. Decker Lake Drive, West Valley City, Friday at 8 p.m. Tickets are available at MaverikCenter.com. The Piano Guys (made up of pianist Jon Schmidt and cellist Steven Sharp Nelson, and producers Paul Anderson and Al van der Beek) will perform Saturday, 7:30 p.m., at Vivint Smart Home Arena, 301 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City. Tickets for that show are available at vivintarena.com.

Solitude turns 65

Solitude ski resort, up Big Cottonwood Canyon, is celebrating its 65th anniversary with a free event on Saturday, at the Moonbeam Lodge. It starts at 4:30 p.m. with a reception hour with free appetizers, and beer and wine available for purchase — with historic photos and memorabilia from Solitude on display. At 5:30 p.m., a presentation will be made of a timeline chronicling the resort’s history. The resort is seeking images and stories from longtime guests, former employees and canyon residents.
