Look Ahead: Local events and things to do this week, Oct. 30-Nov. 5

Halloween, two musical superstars at The Viv, and a benefit gala for Planned Parenthood of Utah.

October 31

Happy Halloween!

Remember that Monday is Halloween, which means there will be lots of young people out and about, wearing their princess and Spider-Man costumes under their winter coats. If you’re also going out on Monday night, remember to watch for those trick-or-treaters.

November 1-2

Two megastars at The Viv

There’s a lot of heat at Vivint Smart Home Arena this week, and we’re not talking about the better-than-expected Utah Jazz (though the team is playing the Memphis Grizzlies on Monday). On Tuesday, Nov. 1, rapper and Utah resident Post Malone is bringing his “Twelve Carat Tour” to The Viv, 301 W. South Temple, Salt Lake City, with opening act Roddy Ricch. On Wednesday, Nov. 2, the hip-hop diva Lizzo comes to town on “The Special Tour,” with rapper Latto opening. Both shows start at 8 p.m. Tickets to both are available at vivintarena.com.

November 4

A gala to support abortion rights

The annual gala for Planned Parenthood of Utah is scheduled for Friday, Nov. 4, at the Eccles Theatre, 131 S Main St., Salt Lake City. With the theme “Abortion Bans Are a Drag,” the fundraising event features comedian, actress and former “Saturday Night Live” cast member Sasheer Zamata as the headliner; local music group Saliva Sisters and emcee Toni James are also on the bill. Proceeds will go toward Planned Parenthood’s mission “to preserve our reproductive freedom and access to abortion care.” The event starts at 8 p.m., tickets range from $55 to $75; a VIP reception starts at 6 p.m., with tickets at $75. Tickets are available at ppaugala.org.
